When to Seek Urgent Care

If your pet is experiencing any of the following symptoms and needs prompt, same-day care, please call us right away.

• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Minor wounds or abscesses
• Limping, swelling, or signs of pain
• Loss of appetite or dehydration
• Itchy skin, hives, or rashes
• Eye redness, discharge, or tearing
• Ear infections
• Pale gums
• Coughing, sneezing, or nasal discharge
• Worms, fleas, ticks, or mites
• Urinary changes (e.g., blood in urine, frequent urination)
• Suspected ingestion of something toxic*
• Trouble giving birth
  • Based on capacity – please call
• Not eating or drinking for more than 48 hours
  • Based on capacity – please call

*If you think your pet has ingested something poisonous, call us immediately at 281-201-8779. After hours, contact the ASPCA Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.

Emergency vs. Urgent Care

Not sure if it’s an emergency? Here’s a quick guide:

Urgent Care:

• Stable condition
• Needs prompt same-day care but not life-threatening
• Can wait a short time with monitoring

Emergency Care (Go directly to a 24/7 emergency hospital):

• Difficulty breathing
• Severe trauma (e.g., hit by a car)
• Repeated seizures
• Loss of consciousness
• Bloating or signs of GDV
• Uncontrolled bleeding
• Choking
• Paralysis or collapse
• Trouble giving birth
• Not eating or drinking for more than 48 hours
